Say Hello to Christina Truong, D.M.D.
What professional tips or advice would you like to share about your profession?
Dentistry is rapidly evolving with new research, materials, methodologies, and technologies. The same goes for dental education but with the added challenge of teaching the new generation of dental students. Thus, it is crucial for dental educators to stay up-to-date and invest in continuous professional development, find good mentors and network to learn from and support each other. It is also important to be approachable, flexible, and patient for our learners.
What is your #1 reason for becoming an ADEA member?
My #1 reason for becoming an ADEA member is to learn from educators of other institutions on how to positively improve dental education as a whole and at our respective schools. ADEA is a community where we have like-minded people who are all passionate about dental education. It is a collaborative platform to help educators share their experiences, stay current with industry trends, and gain insights on new teaching strategies, treatments, and research opportunities.
What has been the most rewarding experience of your career?
The most rewarding experience of my academic career is being able to follow and witness the growth of the first-year dental students to them becoming new dentists and colleagues. It is always exciting to hear about the next steps in their career and life after dental school!
How has ADEA Connect been useful to you?
ADEA Connect is a supportive community and has been useful to me because it acts like a big mentor. It serves as a great avenue for advice, to gain new perspectives, and to learn about dental education at different institutions. There are interesting discussions and informative resources available for improvements in the dental curriculum and also for professional growth and development in academia. I enjoy the continuous variety of seminars/webinars available to broaden my knowledge, spark new ideas, and remain informed. The opportunities to meet and connect with others across the nation are invaluable too.
What is your favorite hobby or place to travel?
I enjoy exercising in my free time. I find it therapeutic and a great way to de-stress my mind. Specifically, I like barre, hot yoga, swimming, some weightlifting, and racquet sports.
