Dr. Bortoluzzi graduated in Dentistry (DDS - 1998) and was certificated in Endodontics (2000) from the Federal University of Santa Catarina - UFSC. He completed his Master's in Endodontics from the Faculty of Dentistry of Bauru-USP (2005) and his Ph.D. in Endodontics from the Faculty of Dentistry of Araraquara-UNESP (2007). He had a sabbatical year at Augusta University in Georgia (2014-2015). He was an Associate Professor at the Department of Dentistry, Endodontics Area, at the Health Sciences Center at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC). He worked as head of the Department of Endodontics, as well as predoc and grad director. He also worked as a researcher in the ENDO UFSC research group. His current position is an assistant professor at the University of Louisville, School of Dentistry, where he provides clinical, didactic and research training for both predoctoral students and postdoctoral residents. main lines of research focus on the development and improvement of dental materials for endodontic application, the physicochemical properties of repairing and filling endodontic materials, the biocompatibility and cytotoxicity of dental materials, and on techniques for treating the root canal system. In addition, he works on topics such as stem cells, molecular biology, and human pulp tissue engineering. He has published several scientific manuscripts in his field of knowledge in high-impact journals, such as the Journal of Endodontics, International Endodontic Journal, Dental Materials, Journal of Dentistry, Scientific Reports-Nature, Dental Traumatology, Clinical Oral Investigations, among others. He is a member of the Brazilian Society for Dental Research, the International Association for Dental Research, and the American Association of Endodontists.
