What professional tips or advice would you like to share about your profession?
As pre-doctoral director of Endodontics at VCU I pride myself in caring about my students and apply every effort to teach them to see their patients as a whole. Every student is bright and capable if we give them the tools to succeed. As a dental educator it is important to be approachable, patient, share our personal experiences and encourage our students, while guiding and mentoring them to reach their full potential.
What is your #1 reason for becoming an ADEA member?
As a lifelong learner, I find that ADEA gives me a platform to share experiences and gain knowledge as an educator. The connections and friendships that I am constantly able to make are invaluable for my professional and personal growth.
What has been the most rewarding experience of your career?
I am very passionate about teaching and passing my knowledge to the next generation of professionals. Being recognized with the Endodontic Educator Fellowship Award in 2021 given by the Foundation for Endodontics to educators who play a critical role in strengthening the Endodontic specialty was, and still is the highlight of my career.
How has ADEA Connect been useful to you?
I was able to meet wonderful educators from the US and Canada, share resources and experiences and get advice on professional and personal career goals. This is a judgment-free community where I feel supported and truly believe we have each other's back. Together we are better educators!
What is your favorite hobby or place to travel?
I love cooking. I feel relaxed in the kitchen, and it fills me with joy to be able to make a simple or elaborate meal, bring family and friends together and enjoy quality time. My favorite place to travel is anywhere with my husband and son.
